Top 5 vegan eat outs in Melbourne!

Having lived in Melbourne CBD for nine months now, as a forever-hungry-comfort-food-obsessed-vegan, I feel I have acquired adequate knowledge of the tastiest vegan menu’s in the city, and I’m ready to share that wisdom with you all!

Disclaimer – If you’re a raw foodie/healthy eating kind of vegan, then you’re probably not going to like these suggestions. Faux meat and cheese features predominantly.

1. The Cornish Arms

Vegan heaven! They have an extensive pub food menu including parmas, burgers, and double downs (my favourite). The vegan bacon has such a realistic stringy texture that you almost feel like you shouldn’t be eating it! Finish your meal with a divine vegan cheesecake, and your world will never be the same again.

Useful info – Sunday is parma night – get your parma’s cheap. The gravy is to die for, make sure you try it. They also have a regular menu so that you can dine with your non-vegan pals and both be fully satisfied.

To get there, hop on the 19 tram from Elizabeth street, get off at stop 20 and turn right.

2. Vegie Bar

This place get’s very busy because, clearly, people know a good thing when they taste it. There are plenty of options on the menu from curries to pizzas, and even salads for the health conscious. My personal favourite is the temperoni pizza, mmm. The mains are amazing, but I’m not a huge fan of the desserts as the vegan ones tend to be raw, which just isn’t my slice of cake. I would suggest nipping across the road to Lord of the fries for a vegan milkshake (their whole menu is vegan), or to the cruelty free shop (also across the road) for a plethora of vegan sweets and chocolates.

To get there, hop on the 11 tram from Collin’s street. This will drop you off right outside.

3. Veggie time

A hidden gem! It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and we nearly didn’t bother going in, but as my boyfriend and I were peeping through the window, a mysterious woman stalked by and promised us a magical experience, should we step inside – she was right!

Veggie time sells veggie curries – the most amazing veggie curries I’ve ever tasted – and you can get two different types with rice for $9.95! Need I say more? Personal recommendation – the green curry and the laksa.

Hop on the 96 tram to St Kilda, get off at Park street.

(No pictures, sorry. Just a lifetime of happy memories.)

4. Gon de lin

I know that I just said Veggie time did the most amazing curries, but Gon de lin does a chicken curry that I’m going to have to tie for the top curry spot. Be careful, there is a veggie chicken curry, and a chicken curry; both are vegan but the chicken curry is made with realistic faux meat and is AMAZING! (I think it’s number M45 on the menu)

Hidden on the 3rd floor along Swanston street.

(Again, no pictures. I’m rubbish, soz.)

5. I’m going to list all of my favourite dessert places as number 5, because there simply can’t be one winner.
* Lord of the fries milkshakes and cookies – yum.
* Mr. Nice guy’s gives you a huge variety of doughnuts, cupcakes, cinnamon swirls etc.
* Cupcake central in Melbourne central do a daily vegan cupcake and it is always delicious. (the peanut butter ones sell out fast, so be early).
